Middle school connects with Panama for cultural exchange

Middlesex Middle School has a thing for Darién. The tiny Panamanian province has received more than $30,000 in aid for school improvements in Nicanor, Darién, thanks to donations by the Darien to Darién program. To keep the giving ball rolling, Middlesex will host Variety Show 5 on Thursday, May 5, to raise money for the Pueblo Nuevo School of Darién. Continue reading

90210 star visits 06820

A slice of “Beverly Hills 90210” came through Darien Tuesday, when actor Ian Ziering stopped by the Spree clothing store on the Post Road to promote a skin care product. Ziering played the brash rich kid Steve Sanders in the hit 1990s television series, arguably his most well known artistic effort. Crowds of women piled into the Post Road shop to catch a glimpse of Ziering and see why he was in town. Cameras flashed while local ladies posed with the star, and visitors were hard-pressed not to associate him with his long gone “90210” character, like a close friend who had grown apart from his hometown clique. A virtuouso in the making

Middle schooler Christopher Jessup learned to sing before he learned to speak. As a baby, his parents remember him humming in his crib, perhaps recalling a classic jazz tune from the home stereo. “I like to sing,” Chris said, pausing from rehearsals for the Middlesex Middle School variety show last spring. “I like to sing a lot.” Continue reading

Songs

All instruments played, programmed, recorded and mixed by me. If you’d like to use any of them for a commercial purpose, such as for a film, please contact me here. Enjoy!

Feeding After Midnight: My favorite song so far, though it remains a work in progress. Some Tool and Mogwai influences here.

Golosa: This song was mostly recorded in Ethiopia using an old Mac PowerBook as the mic, hence the high frequency ring. Reminiscent of Stone Temple Pilots or Soundgarden.

Warm Rain: Recorded in Ethiopia using the Mac’s mic, this song came to me strangely as I was staying with a music teacher, Chris Cameron, who taught at the American school in Addis Ababa.

______________________________________________________________________________
This Sorrow Will Die on the Morrow: A merging of electronica and a finger-picked guitar riff. Starting off almost Portishead-like, it eventually slows down before kicking into a breakbeat a la Aphex Twin.

______________________________________________________________________________
Harlem Jazz Night: Hip hop. Please feel free to laugh at my terrible singing on the chorus. I always do.

______________________________________________________________________________
Holy Shiite: Pretty straightforward ska-punk, with a little rockabilly and a splash of carnival fun.

______________________________________________________________________________
Pop Tards: Written and recorded in Ethiopia, it reminds me of a mix between Dave Matthews and some kinds chicken-picken’ country tune.

______________________________________________________________________________
Stolen Eyes: Reggae. The singing could be better…

Telekinetic Hydrotherapy: Another favorite. It came to me soon after one of my best friends visited me, after his girlfriend was killed in a tragic accident. I almost want to add some free verse to the beginning, which is a bit slow moving. The middle to the end is my favorite (it takes off at 2:15)… it takes me on a journey every time. It’s Smashing Pumpkins-esque, with a hint of Clutch and Mono.
